ROAD ETIQUETTE - When you see a truck coming up behind you and wanting to pass, DO NOT slow down. Keep going at the same speed so that the truck doesn't lose momentum and once the truck pulls out to pass, slow down and let them get past as quickly as possible. As the truck passes, you can flash your lights to let the driver know they are safe to pull back in. Generally they will flick their indicators from left to right as a thank you.
FUEL CONSUMPTION - We all want to try and conserve our fuel usage. I've always found that if I travel at around 95km/hr, my fuel consumption is more efficient even in areas where the speed limit is more than 100km/hr, just be prepared for people overtaking you.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS - Towing a van takes a lot of concentration. Make sure you have regular stops so you can get some fresh air and have a snack.
ALLOW FOR WIDE TURNING - When you turn around corners allow for the fact that you have a long wide load. Use your towing mirrors to help guide you so you avoid hitting anything.
BRAKE EARLIER - Be aware that you're towing a heavy load. Allow for this when approaching traffic lights and for braking in general. Start to brake earlier than you normally would.
